The ProjectThe Project In 1999 Keep Austin Beautiful and The University of Texas Volunteer and Service Learning Center partnered to initiate The Project. Seven years later the event has become one of the largest one-day student and community run service events in the nation. The goal of the project is to promote community service among UT students, faculty and staff while building a strong relationship with schools and community leaders to develop work that will best impact the neighborhood. Project 2009 - February 21st, 2009 in the Rosewood Neighborhood (more details coming soon) Project 2008 For 2008 the UT Volunteer and Service Learning Center, in partnership with KAB, teamed up with the Montopolis neighborhood to plan and coordinate a huge day of service. On Saturday, February 23rd projects turned into action as over 1,300 UT students and community members cleaned and beautified the area. Projects included installing a native habitat at Allan Elementary School, planting tree seedlings along Country Club Creek Trail, trimming and removing brush at Yates Park, and defining stone pathways and gravel play areas at Comfort House. By partnering with local schools, community members, the Austin Police Department, and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department volunteers completed over 20 projects to improve the area.
