Bartholomew Park Invasive Plant Removal Project10/11/08 Bartholomew Park is a 57 acre city park in Austin near 51st Street and Berkman and the Mueller redevelopment.   Through years of neglect numerous non-native invasive plant species now dominate the flora of the park.   As preparation for the Arbor Day tree planting of over 200 native trees at the Park, members of the neighborhood and other volunteers are spending a few hours removing invasive, non-native flora (e.g. wax-leaf ligustrum, nandina, chinaberry) throughout the park.   Tools will be provided for a variety of jobs, ranging from non-strenuous to somewhat strenuous. Date:  October 11 , 2008 Time:  8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Location:  Park in lot in the easternmost entrance of the park (just west of Waterbrook Drive) off of 51st street.  Lot is adjacent to tennis court. Contact: Please call Kyle Girten (502-762-6676; kgirten@gmail.com) or Keith Mars (865-368-2874; mars37716@yahoo.com) or just show up Notes:  Volunteers will meet near the parking area at 8:00 a.m.  If you cannot make it by 8:00 a.m., please call Kyle or Keith, and they can direct you to our location.  Or, you can just walk along the creek (Tannehill Creek) running through the park and you will find other volunteers hard at work.

Greenbelt Guardians Workday10/18/08 Join one of our Adopt-a-Creek groups, the Barton Creek Greenbelt Guardians, as they weed and do some trail edge repair, stockpile large rocks for wall construction and prepare a footing for another wall section, and go after the ligustrum and nandina population with shovels, weed wrenches and a chainsaw helper. This rain will really perk up the energy on the greenbelt, and make it easier to work.
