100 Creek Adopters and Going Strong!

On Tuesday, July 12th, the Friends of Givens Park officially adopted Tannehill Branch Creek and the surrounding Grow Zone, becoming our 100th Adopt-a-Creek group! With dogs in tow, the Friends walked along the creek, discussed possible projects, and made a long-term commitment to dedicate their time and energy to implement park and creek improvement plans.

Name the service event – Adopt-a-Creek workdays, Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup, or Clean Lady Bird Lake and Richard Maness is not only participating but leading the workday. The kind of volunteer you keep on speed dial due to his willingness to always step in and lead. At a given project, you can find Richard inspiring others as he shares his love and knowledge of the outdoors. Richard has lived in Austin for most of his life. He remembers his love of nature starting at a young age playing in Little Walnut Creek by Dottie Jordan Rec Center.

By Crysta Hernandez, Communications Intern and Erin Cord, Community Programs Coordinator

Make an investment to volunteer and care for this featured creek! Williamson Creek, a valued hub in the Dove Springs area, is now available for adoption. Dedicated volunteers needed who are ready to steward the area. This lovely hidden gem is abundant with precious frogs and fluttering dragonflies that can be found under a tall canopy of trees along with a winding trail. Adjacent to the creek, you can find Dove Springs Park, which has a newly renovated playground and has continued improvement projects on the horizon.
