Position Overview: Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for community engagement and environmental stewardship? Keep Austin Beautiful seeks a Community Engagement Manager to lead and inspire a team dedicated to mobilizing volunteers, building partnerships, and creating a cleaner, more beautiful Austin. As a key member of the leadership team, the Community Engagement Manager will oversee strategic programs and volunteer engagement initiatives, empowering individuals, corporate partners, and civic groups to take action in beautifying our city’s green spaces and waterways. This impactful role combines program management, relationship building, and strategic oversight to inspire action, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful change across Austin.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, support, and mentor the community engagement team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies, including volunteer recruitment, registration, tracking, and reporting.
  • Manage program and volunteer engagement goals to meet community and corporate partner requirements.
  • Oversee project budgets and ensure program goals are achieved.
  • Manage and optimize volunteer and project management software systems.
  • Lead and oversee Keep Austin Beautiful Day, Adopt-a-Creek, and Community Cleanups programs, while supporting Adopt-a-Street and Clean Lady Bird Lake.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with stakeholders, including City of Austin departments, community organizations, and corporate partners.
  • Manage the City of Austin Education, Cleanup, and Beautification contract requirements, including attending meetings and preparing reports in a timely manner.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising staff.
  • At least 3 years of experience in volunteer management, community organizing, corporate community relations, project management, or a related field.
  • Strong relationship management skills to build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to multitask, problem-solve, and create efficient systems and processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions, prioritize competing tasks, and excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Analytical thinker with a deep understanding of community dynamics and the ability to mobilize financial and human resources effectively.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Physical ability to lift thirty pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

 

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel) and platforms such as GivePulse, Mailchimp, and Monday.com.
  • Knowledge of Austin’s diverse communities and the barriers underrepresented groups face in accessing clean, beautiful green spaces.

 

Work Hours: This is a full-time position with occasional evening and weekend work required to support events and programming.

Since 1985, our nonprofit organization has inspired and educated Austinites to take action by volunteering, beautifying green spaces, cleaning waterways, and reducing waste. Last year alone, we empowered over 9,000 volunteers to remove 70 tons of litter from public spaces and educated more than 12,000 youth on recycling, composting, and environmental stewardship. Position Overview: Do you believe that a cleaner, greener city transforms lives? As the Community Cleanup Coordinator, you’ll be at the forefront of inspiring action, mobilizing volunteers, and educating the public on the importance of litter abatement. In this impactful role, you will engage hundreds of volunteers each year, partner with businesses and civic groups, and lead initiatives that highlight the beauty and value of clean public spaces. Collaborating closely with the Community Engagement Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in fostering environmental stewardship, building community pride, and strengthening connections across Austin. This is more than a job, it’s a chance to create a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful city for generations to come.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate volunteers for Keep Austin Beautiful Day, Love Where You Live Days, and other ongoing programs.
  • Plan, organize, and lead weekly Community Engagement Days for businesses and community groups.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key organizational partners to create sustainable volunteer opportunities.
  • Recruit, train, and empower volunteer site leaders through quarterly info sessions for large-scale events and ongoing service projects.
  • Plan and implement volunteer appreciation events that celebrate community contributions throughout the year.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of volunteer engagement and program outcomes.
  • Conduct community outreach to grow program participation and engagement.
  • Provide support for additional programs and initiatives as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience coordinating and organizing volunteers.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in program administration and coordination.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse group of volunteers, ranging from youth to older adults.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills for teaching and inspiring large groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Physical ability to lift 30 pounds, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and navigate uneven surfaces such as creeks and trails.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a positive attitude with community members.

Preferred:

  • Experience or knowledge in solid waste services, litter abatement, environmental restoration, riparian and water quality issues, native plant species, or landscape design and installation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken formats.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as GivePulse, Mailchimp, and Monday.com.
