Austin Businesses and Volunteers LOVE STREETS this Clean Streets Day with Keep Austin Beautiful

Volunteers will keep Austin’s streets beautiful on Saturday, September 19, with help from 40 new waste and recycling containers across the city.

AUSTIN, Texas – September 15, 2026 – Austin businesses, clubs, and volunteers are gathering together this Saturday, September 19, for Keep Austin Beautiful’s annual Clean Streets Day: a morning dedicated to making our Austin streets clean, beautiful, and safe.

AAS 1Each fall, Austinites return to regular schedules for school and work, taking a network of neighborhood streets and roadways to get to their destination; however, these streets are one of the most visible places to see the impact of litter on Austin’s beauty. There are nearly 50 billion pieces of litter along U.S. roadways and waterways (2020 National Litter Survey). To help fight this impact, Keep Austin Beautiful has partnered with Honda and Austin Resource Recovery to install 40 new waste and recycling containers in high-need, well-traveled areas.

Twenty volunteer groups (including student clubs, local businesses, and service clubs) will host “Clean Streets Day: Love Streets” projects this Saturday, September 19. Paired with the 40 new waste and recycling containers across the city, these cleanups will demonstrate how Austinites working together can make a more beautiful city for all.

Our streets are more than routes to our destinations. They’re shared public spaces that connect our communities and shape how we experience Austin every day,” said Rodney Ahart, CEO of Keep Austin Beautiful. “Clean Streets Day reminds us that these shared spaces deserve our attention and that we all have a role in keeping them litter-free.

“Reducing litter in Austin starts with simple, everyday choices,” said Austin Resource Recovery Director Richard McHale. “By adding more bins and encouraging better recycling habits across the city, we’re making it easier for people to do the right thing.”
