What influenced you to join the Keep Austin Beautiful Board?

I had just started working in Austin for a local recycling company and was asked to attend a Keep Austin Beautiful awards lunch.  I was inspired by the involvement of individuals and their families to create a beautiful community for us to live in. I immediately knew I needed to find a way to engage in giving back to our city in more than just my professional work.

What excites you the most about Keep Austin Beautiful’s mission?

I love learning about subjects that connect me with the outdoors, and Keep Austin Beautiful offers a variety of programs for classrooms, families, and volunteers that allow us to better understand our relationship with nature.

Why do you think Keep Austin Beautiful’s work is important?

Through my work in recycling, I understand there is still a strong need to teach our community ways in which they can preserve our resources and extend the life of our land. Keep Austin Beautiful provides hands-on learning for these critical subjects.

What is your most memorable volunteer moment as a Keep Austin Beautiful Board member

In the Summer of 2017, I organized a company volunteer day for us to clean Lady Bird Lake on kayaks. We partnered into teams to compete on collecting the most trash and recycling in and around the lake. We had a company party later that evening and we included awards for different categories of our competition. It is still a day my colleagues talk and laugh about.

What is your hope for Keep Austin Beautiful’s future?

My hope is that companies, city staff members, and other organizations within the Austin area to continue to recognize the organization as a vital component in keeping our city beautiful and prosperous as it continues to grow and evolve.
