Clean Lady Bird Lake Spotlight: Matthew & Cody

Every month we will highlight a new lake leader from our Clean Lady Bird Lake program. Lake leaders are the heart and soul of the program. They commit to leading volunteers at their sites around Lady Bird Lake 6 times a year and help to remove 2,000 pounds of trash of recyclables from in and around the lake each year.

Where do you lead your site & what do you love most about it? Fiesta Gardens boat ramp. The interaction we got from people running, biking and putting boats in passing by.

What is one of your favorite memories on Lady Bird Lake? the storytelling about most interesting trash find. Got pretty comical last time!

What is your favorite on the water activity? Fishing from kayak, canoe, or my john boat

What motivates you to keep the lakes ecosystem healthy? For me it’s definitely the fishing related aspect, for keeping the fish healthy and for enjoying nature without a Whataburger cup floating by.

What is one thing volunteers can look forward to when participating in the cleanup? Getting a genuine appreciation for the work they do and hopefully a better sense of how important it is to put trash where it belongs
