What influenced you to join the Keep Austin Beautiful Board?
When someone asks me why I’ve chosen to make Austin my home for the past 11 years, the first reason I always list is our beautiful outdoor spaces. I had heard about Keep Austin Beautiful and the large clean-ups they organize, and when I found out how much more they do for the Austin community beyond just clean-ups, I knew I wanted to be involved.
What excites you the most about Keep Austin Beautiful’s mission?
I think the last two words of Keep Austin Beautiful’s mission are the most important: “every day.” There is always something that every Austinite can do daily to help Keep Austin Beautiful further our mission and make Austin the cleanest, most beautiful city.
Why do you think Keep Austin Beautiful’s work is important?
Keep Austin Beautiful’s 35th anniversary is a testament to the longevity of our organization. While there is the shorter-term impact that community clean-ups make, Keep Austin Beautiful’s educational programming inspires me to see the incredible future Austin has in the hands of our youth who are learning about our environment and waste reduction today.
What is your most memorable volunteer moment as a Keep Austin Beautiful Board member?
When I volunteered at a Keep Austin Beautiful fundraiser where we partnered with a few local companies, it became so evident to me that Keep Austin Beautiful has a mission that every person can get behind in a world that can often feel divided. It’s exciting to see more people learn about Keep Austin Beautiful and get passionate about the impact we make in our city.
What is your hope for Keep Austin Beautiful’s future?
I hope that more Austinites get exposed to all of Keep Austin Beautiful’s amazing programs that serve our community and see that they can find a variety of ways to get involved at KeepAustinBeautiful.org. I’m excited to partner with more people and organizations all over Austin as we work together to keep our city beautiful!
