LBJ High School beautification project day by Keep Austin Beautiful with charitable funds from Dell Technologies Match Play PGA Tour
Keep Austin Beautiful will be leading over 50 volunteers from Dell in a beautification project at LBJ High School on Tuesday, December 13th starting at 1:30pm. Thanks to funds provided by the Dell Technologies Match Play PGA Tour, Keep Austin Beautiful will be leading projects including new front entrance landscaping, native plants and tree installation, and tree mulching around campus. The initial event on the 13th is a kick-off project for a series of school ground improvements through the new Keep Austin Beautiful Initiative, Beautify Austin.
Beautify Austin: The large-scale initiative aims to Beautify Austin – one community at a time. Every three months Keep Austin Beautiful selects a geographical area of the city to concentrate project efforts, and plans follow up projects over a period of one year. The program seeks to equip community members with volunteers and resources needed to improve their neighborhood. Projects include continued work at LBJ High School, permaculture garden projects at Paredes Middle School, an upcoming rain garden installation at Sims Elementary School, a recently completed garden and landscaping work at Barbara Jordan Elementary School, and ongoing restoration and maintenance projects at Quail Creek Park and East Williamson Creek.
“The effects of completed beautification projects go well beyond the before-and-after photos we have all seen. The story that isn’t told is the sense of pride neighbors develop. Service projects instill hope by showing how people can come together to work towards a common purpose, transform communities from the outside in, and help build a sustainable city – adding to the high quality of life we enjoy here,” explained Ahart.
As a charity partner for the Match Play tournament, Ahart continues, “Nurturing environmental consciousness among young people is integral to our mission, and Dell’s support has been critical to our work. We look forward to amplifying our efforts at projects like LBJ High School thanks to the funds provided by Dell Technologies Match Play.”
