Brodie Wild Volunteer Day3/13/2010 Come help out and keep Brodie looking wild, natural, and clean! There will be lot’s to do including; cleaning up trash, brush clearing, and invasive plant removal to restore the native savanna and help the native grasses, flowers, and other plants and critters. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes. There is a seasonal creek area on the south side of the property, so if you want to work in that area bring rubber boots. Trash bags and some tools will be provided. Bring your own work gloves and tools like loppers and pruners.   Park in one of the plazas around the corner and take the cross walk to Brodie Wild. Lower Bull Creek Greenbelt Workday 3/13/2010 The season is changing the park. Bare limbs have little bumps on them, green is appearing, little critters scurry in the underbrush, and birds are having a ball! Come out and join volunteers as they concentrate on removing ligustrum.  As the park greens up, ligustrum becomes less conspicuous so this will probably be the last time for several months that it will be easy to find.Volunteers did a super job on removing the giant cane (Arundo donax) in February, but removing standing material was just the first step. All the new shoots will also need to be cut.  Hope you can join in the fun! Volunteers will meet at the paved parking lot at 9am. West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt Cleanup and Invasive Species Removal3/20/2010Please join volunteers and help restore the natural health and vitality of the greenbelt.  Volunteers will meet the third Saturday of every month through May of 2010.  Coffee in the morning and refreshment at the end of the work session will be provided. Keep Austin Beautiful will loan volunteers some tools, but if you have handsaws, shovels or rakes, please bring those. Organizers also recommend wearing boots, long pants, long- sleeved shirt and gloves as protection against poison ivy. Mary Moore Searight Park Off-Leash Nature Trail Project4/3/10Austin Parks Foundation has provided a grant for ecological restoration in the north end of Mary Moore Searight Park.  This project will include tree installation, and seeding of native grasses and wildflowers in the open areas.  Many decaying ash junipers have already been removed and mulched by a forestry mower.  Volunteers will be needed to transplant seedlings of tree species from the adjacent forest that are not available from local nurseries.  A very exciting addition to the project will be the installation of a solar powered irrigation system to get the new trees established.  Date:  Saturday, April 3, 2010Time:  9am-12pmLocation: 907 Slaughter Ln., 78748.
