AUSTIN, TX (April 18, 2024) – Austin is a city known for its beauty; from Lady Bird Lake, to our parks and creeks, Austin’s beautiful outdoor spaces provide ample opportunity for Austinites to gather in nature. But Austin has a litter problem, and as the city grows, so does the amount of litter. Since 1985, Keep Austin Beautiful Day has been an opportunity for people to give back, remove litter, and educate fellow Austinites about the importance of doing their part to keep our city clean every day. On Saturday, April 20, over 2,000 volunteers are expected to participate in the organization’s largest citywide day of service, Keep Austin Beautiful Day, presented by Samsung Austin Semiconductor. From 9:00 – 11:00 AM that morning, dedicated neighbors, families, and friends will beautify their communities by removing litter from Austin’s streets, creeks, green spaces and waterways. This collective effort exemplifies Austinites’ spirit of giving back.
Projects are confirmed at more than 100 locations in all 10 City Council Districts across the Greater Austin Area, and include on-the-water cleanups at Lady Bird Lake with kayaks and canoes, invasive species removals, and other beautification projects. Keep Austin Beautiful Day aims to inspire the preservation of Austin’s shared outdoor spaces through community engagement and environmental stewardship. Noting that over a thousand volunteers are already registered for the day of service, Keep Austin Beautiful’s Executive Director, Rodney Ahart, says, “Keep Austin Beautiful Day is more than just a single day of service; it’s a celebration of community, unity, and stewardship. Thousands of Austinites will come together to make a noticeable difference in our city, removing litter, beautifying neighborhoods, and spreading awareness about the importance of keeping Austin clean, green, and beautiful.” Volunteer opportunities are still available.
