Hatching Hands-on Education at Eastside Memorial High School

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Students at Eastside aren’t sure, but last year they decided to start with the egg. Back in the fall, the Green Teens wanted to do something different, something special. After some serious brainstorming, they decided to introduce students at Eastside to a new school mascot. Since a live panther was out of the question, students considered domestic animals they might raise on campus instead. Chickens made the final cut, both for their feasibility and their familiarity to teenagers.

Creek Seeks Dedicated Adopter

Make an investment to volunteer and care for this featured creek! Williamson Creek, a valued hub in the Dove Springs area, is now available for adoption. Dedicated volunteers needed who are ready to steward the area. This lovely hidden gem is abundant with precious frogs and fluttering dragonflies that can be found under a tall canopy of trees along with a winding trail. Adjacent to the creek, you can find Dove Springs Park, which has a newly renovated playground and has continued improvement projects on the horizon.

Generation Zero Receives State of Texas Alliance for Recycling Award

AUSTIN – Seven organizations, communities and individuals were honored for their outstanding commitments to recycling and sustainability at the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling’s (STAR) annual Texas Environmental Leadership Awards ceremony and reception on November 5th in the Lieutenant Governor’s Reception Room at the Texas State Capitol Building.

A Beautiful Austin

To celebrate our 30 year commitment to Austin, Keep Austin Beautiful is honoring the city’s residents and seeing Austin through their eyes, lives and activities by inviting Austin citizens to participate in the many events they will be hosting.

The month-long celebration will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 1 to kick-off Keep Austin Beautiful’s 30 projects in 30 days mission. This ambitious goal allows the community, including businesses, schools, community groups, service clubs and individuals to rally together to preserve Austin’s natural beauty.

National Pollinator Garden Network Launches Million Pollinator Garden Challenge

WASHINGTON, DC (June 3, 2015) – In an unprecedented collaboration, dozens of conservation and gardening organizations joined together today to form the National Pollinator Garden Network and launch a new nationwide campaign – the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge. Designed to accelerate growing efforts across America, the Network is launching the Challenge in support of President Barack Obama’s call to action to reverse the decline of pollinating insects, such as honey bees and native bees, as well as monarch butterflies. Representatives of the Network joined First Lady Michelle Obama today at the White House garden, which includes a section dedicated to support pollinators, to formally launch the Challenge.
